Welcome Message at City University of Macau (Macau, China, 2011)
Click:139It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the Fifth International Conference on Management Science and Engineering Management (ICMSEM 2011) here at City University of Macau, China. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our local host for the outstanding organization and warm hospitality that have made this academic event possible.
This year, ICMSEM continues to grow in both depth and scope. We received over 400 submissions from scholars across 20 countries, and through a rigorous review process, 125 high-quality papers were selected for presentation and discussion. These works cover a wide spectrum of contemporary topics—from knowledge management, uncertainty decision-making, to green supply chains, data mining, and enterprise resource planning—highlighting the dynamism and interdisciplinary nature of our field.
We are also proud to present the ISMSEM Advancement Prize for MSEM during this conference. This award recognizes practical applications of management science and engineering management that address pressing issues in real-world settings. The selected papers not only demonstrate scholarly excellence but also offer impactful solutions to engineering and organizational challenges.
We are honored to feature an impressive lineup of theme presentations this year. For instance, Prof. Hajiyey Asaf discussed innovative queueing models based on particle dynamics, Prof. Peter Heck proposed strategies for achieving a low-carbon society through applied flow management, and Prof. V. Cruz Machado analyzed supply chain resilience through secondary data. These reports not only reflect academic rigor but also point toward actionable pathways for sustainable development and operational excellence.
What makes ICMSEM special, beyond its technical content, is its spirit of openness, collaboration, and shared learning. The post-conference tours arranged here in Macau, China provide a relaxed and inspiring backdrop for exchanging ideas beyond the lecture halls. As an international city, Macau offers a unique setting to deepen our academic discussions while experiencing its rich heritage, architecture, and cuisine.
This conference is not merely a venue to present findings—it is a platform to forge new partnerships, ask bold questions, and co-create solutions that matter for our rapidly changing world. I encourage each of you to take full advantage of this opportunity for both scholarly advancement and cultural connection.
Thank you once again for your presence and your contributions. I wish you all a fruitful conference and an enjoyable stay in Macau, China.
